How to Decorate Your Dorm Room - Student Room Decor Ideas and Tips

The time has finally come for your student days to start: you're leaving your home and all of a sudden completely on your own. Student rooms are usually plain small spaces, but how exactly should you set it up so that you really start to feel at home again? Hopefully this post will give you some ideas.

First of all, it is highly important to use as many light colors as possible, so that the space is not too dark. The use of light tones can make small spaces feel bigger, more appealing, and inviting.

As a student you’re probably on a tight budget, so buying furniture and accessories can be a challenge. With a bit off effort you can find furniture at second-hand stores or their online counterparts in good condition for much cheaper than the alternatives. Or, if you're feeling creative and up to the challenge, you can make something on your own. For example, you can make a coffee table or a bed frame from pallets.

While staying at your parents’ house you used to study at your desk, but now you will probably study in your dining area (or wherever you eat). It’s best to purchase furniture that you can use for multiple purposes. Make sure to plan multiple uses for every furniture you buy. Hang some shelves on the wall and place books and small plants on them to keep things organized and bring more life into your space.

Don’t over crowd your room with too much furniture. Remember to keep the space clean – the cleaner your room, the bigger it feels. Get yourself a nice mirror to add more visual depth to the room and give the illusion of more space.
